Q: Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car?
Is the 1999 Volvo s80 a reliable and fuel efficent car? Thinking about buying one. Thanks all!

A: not only is it relliable and fuel efficient, but its one of the safest cars on the road. It also makes some good power, now you wont be burning the pavement off every light, but youll have enough power to pass those pesky little civics on the highways

Q: Why does a volvo s80 t6 have terrible suspension?
I purchased a 2003 volvo s80 t6 with 120 000 kms on the clock. Soon i noticed that the car seemed to rattle and it has a hard suspension. The car does not handle or feel like a prestige car. The noise it makes on the road surface is irritating. Is this common to these cars?

A: The stiff suspension is a by-product of handling so you can feel the road better, The rattling is probably your sway bar link rods or your strut mount bushings and bearings. another common suspension issue on these is the control arm bushings. One last unrelated thing check your timing belt for cracks.

Q: Does the new Volvo S80 have a flashing rear windshield brake light?
I saw an S80 where the third brake light - the bar in the rear windshield - flashed like a warning every time the driver hit the brakes. Is this an add-on or something new for Volvo? I have a 1999 S80 and am interested in adding this safety feature to my car. Thanks!

A: No this is not factory installed. To my knowledge some car companies (mercedes) are starting to look at putting a feature in to strobe the brake lights in emergency braking maneuvers, but this is not the norm. Especially if the brake light flashes every time the vehicle brakes, then this would defeat the purpose of alerting people to an emergency stop or a driver attempting an emergency braking maneuver. I've included a link below of a sample brake light flasher add-on. Lexus also has something similar to the mercedes, but it acts more so in an offensive sense and not a defensive sense. On their european models of the LS 600h they have a rear millimeter wave radar that monitors traffic behind you and if a person is coming up too fast when you are slowing or stopped, it will flash your brake lights at them as a precautionary measure. If you would like to add this feature onto your car, look into a third party market as your volvo dealer will not do this for you for liability reasons. Volvo does have something called crash warning with brake assist, where if you are about to rear-end someone it will flash a simulated brake light on your windshield to alert you to them stopping. Let me know if you need any more assistance or have any more questions about this or other automotive safety issues.

Q: How can I make my Volvo S80 faster?
I have a 2001 Volvo S80 2.9 V6. What would be the best and most cost effective option to make the car a bit faster? Turbo perhaps? Any info would be great! Cheers!

A: Turbo charging the car is a big task and hardly "cost effective" You would do better to find a used T6 engine to drop in. Even better, the space will accomodate the s60R engine if you can find one. Again, it's a big job but will take you to 300hp out of the box. On the easier side, replacing the facory air box with a high flow filter will yield a small HP boost. You can also send the ECU off to be remapped via a company like IPD for a quick 40hp or so. Just remember, the car is built to handle the engine that is in it. If you start doing major changes, you will have to address major components such as the tranny or the suspension.

Q: I was planning to buy a 1999 Volvo S80 T6 with 95k Miles on it.Are volvo's reliable, how long do they go?
I invite any previous or current owners of Volvo s80 specifically the 1999 model to comment about their car in terms of reliability and all other important factors. I invite any previous or current owners of Volvo s80 specifically the 1999 model to comment about their car in terms of reliability and all other important factors. How many more miles can we put on this vehicle with already 95 k

A: with 95K on the clock I will not touch it with a barge pole. Transmission and electrical problems are many and a T6 with that much mileage is sure to have wear and tear which you will end up paying for to fix. Stay away.

Q: How can I use the integrated phone of my Volvo S80 (year 2000)?
Is there any simcard location in my Volvo s80(year 2000) for internal phone use?

A: Its in the boot at the top, its hard to find eh,,,, Good luck

Q: What can you tell me about a Volvo s80?
I'm buying a used car and I really like this car. a 2000 Volvo s80 sedan, it has 113,000miles on it. 6cyl, 2.9L, Automatic, AC, Leather, Power windows and doors. It's in good condition. Asking for $4400.00US A friend told me that the engines on these cars are not good. What's your advice?

A: the price is really low for a volvos80 with 113,000 miles. the price should be around 5300-6700 so why are they selling it for 4400? is theyre something wrong with it? just make sure its not a salvage title meaning its been in an accident as far as the car its a good car i mean your gas mileage is gonna suck because its a v6 other then that its a big strong solid car. it should last you another 30 to 40 thousand miles or so as long as u take care of it.. i personally would get something much smaller like a civic or corolla + way better gas mileage and more reliable then a volvo s80

Q: Should I buy a 2000 Volvo S80 with 98k miles for 7k?
I was wondering if Buying a 2000 Volvo S80 with 98k miles on it for 7k was a good deal and if Volvo's are known to last long? How long can a volvo last?

A: The Volvo S80 is Volvo's flagship model, it has very spacious interiors and boot space for several sets of golf clubs. Leather interiors, cruise control, ABS, traction control, 6 airbags, Dolby stereo adjustable controls at steering wheel are standard in all S80s. The proprietory sound system is very good and Volvo OEM Ipod adaptor can be fitted on all S80 models even older ones. I would be just as happy owning a 2.9 model as I would a T6 model. The twin turbos of the T6 have more power but the trade off is the lag. Also T6 means more moving parts. It is a very luxurious and comfortable ride, but its suspension can be unforgiving on off road conditions and large potholes. You will probably find it is a lot of "car" for the money. In other words, what other european car could you buy for the money for similar size and equally luxurious one. Probably none. Reliablility. It is about as reliable as any other european car. If you are worried about reliability you should probably be looking at a Japanese car, but then again they don't drive the same do they? A lot of luxury cars today have more features and more parts than its predecessors. Obviously the more bits you add, the probablity of something going wrong would be higher than any piece of engineering with a lot less parts and features. I currently drive a 140k 2000 S80 T6. I have owned it for 16 months and 22k now. In that time I had to have a rusty steering rack re-chromed and spring seat replaced. Another 1999 S80 2.0T owner I know with less mileage but owned it for longer than I have, has had trouble with the motor that controlled the locking mechanism on one of the passenger's door. The Magnetti Marelli ETM (electronic throttle module) is probably the least reliable part of the car and it was not until the 2002 models (on all Volvo's not just the S80) was this remedied with a Bosch ETM. In the USA, an extended warranty has been offered to all Volvo's using this ETM. These cars are durable and are built to last. You can tell from the impact protection construction in mind when these cars were designed. They will last as long as you are willing to service them regularly and repair them when required. I expect mine to last at least until 300k depending on when I want to upgrade or how much more I am willing to spend to maintain it. Before you buy the car consider if there is a dealer nearby or at least a good independent repairer equipped with VADIS or VIDA (Volvo's Diagnostic tool) as fault tracing may not be accomplished by the ordinary garage.

Q: Why does our Volvo S80 burn out its taillights frequently?
They're just a simple 1156 bulb, as listed in the manual. They seem to last maybe a month or two so if there's just one burned out, we leave it until time for state inspection. Thanks for the replies. I check the bulb for a broken filament before I replace it. I'm certain the lens interior is staying dry.

A: I would suggest to check your alternator output .....it may be putting out too high a voltage. Top voltage should be high 14 or so

Q: What is the best gasoline to use for my Volvo S80 T6?
Brand-wise, and what type of oil should i use for my oil change as well?

A: most people would say you could use regular, but the S80 is the flag ship of Volvo, and the T6 is the upper class of the S80's so i'd say stick with premium. and mobil 1 synthetic for the oil.

Q: Will a 2000 Volvo S80 with 98K miles last another 100K; or has Ford's ownership influenced their production?
I know that you could MAKE it last. I guess what I want to know is, how much it will cost me and what are the typical Volvo components that go bad around 100 to 125,000 miles.

A: First generation S80s were very problematic cars. Transmission troubles were prevalent along with all sorts of electrical problems. I'd stay away from this particular car. By the way, the early S80s had nothing to do with Ford. Volvo screwed then up all on their own.

Q: How do I connect a Majestic 760C amplifier to my Volvo s80 stock radio?
I have a Majestic amplifier (MA 760C) that is about 8 years old. I am planning on using the hi-input because I do not think my stereo has RCA outputs. However I lost the wire connector that shows which of the 6 pins is which (ex. L-, L+ etc). Does anyone know? does anyone know if the stereo has RCA outputs?

A: I have a majestic 790 that i pulled out of the closet and it has to be about 10-15 years old now..... But The diagram on the bottom of the amp for the Hi-Input just shows the color of the wire and what it is which wouldn't help you any....... You should just run RCA cables from the amp to the back of the stock radio and go to best buy ad pick up a Line output converter which is just a box and on one end it has 2 RCA female plugs (red and white) and on the other side is 4-5 wires and one is ground the others plus in to the factory wires coming from the rear of the stock deck.... but you'll need to know which of the stock wires is the + and - for the front L/R speakers fo hook up the line output converter......

Q: How do i remove the headrests from my 2006 Volvo S80 D5 LUX?

A: that has been a ques. since 95' when and if you do that PLZ holla yahoo answers,,one thing i've never seen headrest monitors in a volvo and depending on they're size maybe consider putting them in your current headrest--would look cool too i'm onna make a phone callto a guwho bought some 940 seats from me ,, he said he was gonna skin them to put on his 240 seats,, so i'll se if he saw a way to do it or something,,, hey heads up, just spoke to my buddy and he says U have to un-zip from the bottom and peel upwards and there is a couple of bolts that hold the headrest in place,,,now in order to un-zip remove the side seat cover panels and there should be 2 10mm bolts each side (watch the wiring and detatch) and remove the back rest of the seat then un-zip--peel--unbolt--and remove then its TV TIME,,,best answer? Q: Why does the volvo s80 loose its value very fast?
I have a 2004 volvo s80. And i was thinking to get a new car. when i went to the dealership, they said it was worth 9,000. And i paid 45,000 for it. it only has 50,000 miles on it. Somebody give me some advice!!!!

A: When the S80 appeared in 1999 it was beset with problems. The most serious were transmission malfunctions. S80s had failures that were almost unheard of on other makes, some serious and other mostly annoying, but when you pay as much for a car as people did for a new S80, the expectations are pretty high. Volvo's reputation really suffered with the S80's failures. Consumer Reports gave it a terrible rating. Some discount that magazine's ratings but a large percentage of the car buying public rely on it to make a choice. Even though Volvo has improved the S80, the reputation it earned in the first years has hung on so trade-in values are low and will tend to remain that way for some time.

Q: Where do I put the automatic transmission fluid in a '99 Volvo S80?
I can't find a reservoir specifically for automatic transmission fluid. Is it combined with the power stearing or is it possible that my transmission doesn't need the fluid checked?

A: From the manual: The automatic transmission dipstick has a yellow handle. Before checking the fluid level: * The car must be parked on level ground * The engine must be idling * The gear selector must be in Neutral or Park * The parking brake must be set Top up if necessary by pouring fluid into the dipstick tube. The level will normally be checked and topped up at the regular service intervals. ______________________________ I recommend replacing the fluid every 30,000 miles.
